Among genital aesthetic operations, Labia Majora Augmentation (Outer Lip Filling) is a technique that has become increasingly well-known and requested in recent years. It is also popularly known as “Vaginal Puffing”.
The structures located on the outermost part of the genital area surrounding the vagina, covered with hair and filled with spongy adipose (fat) tissue, are called Labia Majora (Outer Lips).
Although the structure of the outer lips varies from person to person, they should generally be plump and closed enough to cover the inner lips (labia minora). In some women, the outer lips have a deflated or sagging appearance compared to normal. Methods: How is Labia Majora Augmentation Performed?
Two main materials are used for outer lip augmentation:
1. Autologous Fat Transfer (Fat Injection): The person’s own fat tissue is used. Fat tissue taken from any part of the body such as the inner thigh or abdomen by liposuction is passed through a special process and injected into the patient’s outer lips. This procedure can be performed in hospital conditions or clinic conditions depending on the extent of the area.
2. Hyaluronic Acid (Dermal Fillers): A synthetic material called Hyaluronic Acid, which is FDA-approved for filling procedures in the human body, is used. The filling process with hyaluronic acid can be performed in the office environment in a much shorter time (“Lunchtime Procedure”) with local anesthesia or mild sedation. The patient can continue her daily normal life immediately after the procedure.
How Long Does Labia Majora Filling Last?
Durability varies according to the method used:
Hyaluronic Acid: If the filling process is done with hyaluronic acid, it will maintain its form for 8-12 months, depending on the patient’s metabolism.
Fat Injection: If autologous fat injection is performed, at least 50% of the filler will dissolve/resorb within the first six months. Therefore, in fat fillings, more material than necessary is injected in the first stage. Since a large part of the material will melt over time, the filling will shrink to its ideal size and remain semi-permanent for years.
Recovery Process After Outer Labia Filling
The patient can return to normal life in a very short time after the procedure.
Swelling & Bruising: There may be sensitivity, edema, and bruising in the filled area that can last for 7-10 days. Although these complaints are prominent in the first one or two days, they do not affect the patient’s daily life much.
Resting: While some patients feel the need to rest for a few days after the procedure, some return directly to their normal lives.
Clothing: It is appropriate to wear loose underwear and comfortable clothes for the first week.
Aftercare: What Should Be Considered?
Resting at home for 2 days after the procedure will be sufficient.
You should stay away from saunas, Turkish baths, or extremely hot baths for the first week.
It is appropriate to avoid sexual intercourse for one month following the procedure.
You should wait at least one month to return to activities such as heavy sports and exercise.
What are the Risks and Complications?
This process is one of the safest among surgical aesthetic procedures. When the correct technique and material are used, the risk of complications is quite low. The most likely complications are temporary bleeding and infection.
Hematoma: Bleeding caused by damaged vessels during filling and subsequent hematoma usually resolve spontaneously within 7-10 days. Cold application (ice pack) can be done intermittently in patients who develop hematoma.
Infection: Regular use of antibiotics given by your doctor after the procedure and attention to general hygiene rules reduce the possibility of infection.
Does Labia Augmentation Harm the Genital Area?
This procedure has no harm to the genital organs.
Virginity: If applied to virgin girls, it causes absolutely no damage to the hymen.
Sensation: Since there is no intervention to the Clitoris and G-spot, it does not negatively affect orgasm.
